Sled Hockey Programs
Sled (also known as “sledge”) hockey is the same game you know but designed to accommodate our disabled community here in Albuquerque and surrounding communities. The wonderful thing about Sled Hockey is that anyone can play. This sport is played by males and females, youth and adults. It is a sport that totally integrates players with mobility limitations and able-bodied people with knee, leg or hip injuries that limit their participation in traditional hockey. Friends and family are welcome to play. What a great way to share a sport!
Learn to skate and enjoy the freedom of flying across the ice! It is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a team sport. Players compete in sled hockey by using sleds to travel across the ice. Shortened hockey sticks with a metal pick allow the player to push the sled. The result is an often fast-moving game with plenty of excitement for the players.
Getting on the ice with our Blade Runners will require patience, enthusiasm, and positive attitude. The Outpost Ice Arenas are strong supporters of this program and even offer easy access to our elevators, benches and ice sheets.
