Little Howlers at the Outpost
The Outpost Ice Arenas and the New Mexico Ice Wolves have partnered with the former Arizona Coyotes of the NHL and the Little Howlers. Little Howlers is a youth hockey program that introduces the game to boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 11, who want to learn to skate and the basics of hockey. In conjunction with the Little Howlers, the Outpost and the New Mexico Ice Wolves is hosting a Learn to Play program.
The Outpost hosted a Try Hockey for Free event on Apr. 20, and had over 100 kids attend. Out of those kids, 85 have signed up for the Learn to Play program from May 14 – 30. The program consists of six on-ice sessions to provide kids an introduction to hockey and the basics of skating. Each child receives a full set of equipment, including skates, that they then get to keep following the conclusion of the sessions.
This program is just the tip of the ice of how the Outpost and the New Mexico Ice Wolves are working to grow the game of hockey in New Mexico and get more youth involved. The Outpost will be offering more learn to play programs throughout the summer months to get more kids on the ice and a stick in their hands.
